Venture Café Rotterdam has started a Book Club!
We put a spotlight on books that touch on topics that are close to our hearts and/or support our mission to connect innovators to make things happen. Subjects will include entrepreneurship and management, but can also address societal developments or offer a relevant scientific perspective.
This week, we are in conversation with Shantie Singh. In this session, she talks about the creation of her new novel and about the writing process. What happens before a book is finally available in the bookstores?
Her latest novel, ‘De Kier', is a committed novel and love story in one. We follow the young civil servant Uma who wants to make a difference in Rotterdam in the lives of vulnerable women who are invisible to the outside world. In realizing that ambition, she encounters opposition from politics. Fellow officials are letting her down, and even women who are pursuing the same goal are bothering her. The struggle to gain freedom in her personal life to make her own choices and an impossible love interest also make it difficult for her to survive.
‘De Kier' is primarily a novel about the power of women. The silent heroines. The hidden women. The survivors. It is about the secret pain in the big city, about the power behind the hidden suffering.¬†

About Venture Café's Venture School
This session is part of the "Venture School"-track offered by Venture Café Rotterdam during summer 2020, where participants get to learn about critical elements so that they can build a venture in 9-week's time. Find out more about this program here and sign up here if you plan to join the entire 9-week Venture School program. When you follow the entire track, you may be offered access to mentors and a certificate of participation.
The freely accessible Venture School program starts on Thursday, July 2nd, and runs every Thursday until August 27th. Also, have a look at Venture Café's other summer program offerings here.
Sessions are free of charge since innovation should be accessible for all. Your donation is, however, much appreciated. This way, you keep our platform alive and contribute to the innovation ecosystem directly.
