ABOUT THE SESSION

Exhibitions at the Science Gallery Rotterdam are always the result of workshops in which young people aged 15 to 25 in Rotterdam, together with scientists and artists, explore biomedical themes from a scientific and artistic, but also from a social and ethical perspective. Educational programs and events for the general public and specific target groups, such as primary and secondary school students, take place during the exhibitions. Science Gallery Rotterdam is part of Science Gallery International together with seven other Science Gallery's in the world, all connected to leading universities and research institutes. Science Gallery Rotterdam works locally with, among others, the CBK Rotterdam, Museum Rotterdam and Atelier Van Lieshout. In 2023, Science Gallery Rotterdam will open its own permanent space within the Erasmus MC.

1st exhibition (Un) real
Pop-up exhibitions will take place in Erasmus MC and the city until 2023, for which the young people determine the content with the researchers and artists. The first (Un) real exhibition is about the way in which science and art influence our idea of what is real and what is not. 20 International artists are taking part in the exhibition, including 6 artists from Rotterdam and 2 artists who participated in the Venice Biennale, namely Charlotte Jarvis (UK) and Joep Van Lieshout (NL). In their works, the artists make connections between the scientific research of Erasmus MC, society and the speculative world of the arts. With the exhibition, Erasmus MC gives substance to the entrance to the Museum Park. The pop-up exhibition connects this entrance through a route of artworks with the main entrance of the Erasmus MC.
