Side Event: PowderOnScreen#7: Truth is fiction – EAT ART collective

February 28, 2019, 18:45 - 21:30

Your truth is an opinion. It is most likely based on a mix of official sources like newspapers, informal sources like your uncle Joe and personal experience. How do you decide what to eat? And how can we ever make national decisions about things like food safety? Could you believe in rainbow papaya?

To shine some light on this topic, we will show excerpts from two movies before we gather the audience to talk with Petra Verhoef. She is a researcher in Food & Health and works at the Rathenau institute.

Petra Verhoef is a woman of many traits. She is a well published researcher in Food & Health. Through scientific research at TI Food & Nutrition, she got intrigued by what the food industry could do for affordable, easy and healthy food. After many years of R&D at Unilever, she was ready for something more meaningful. She became a politician in the city council and started work at the Rathenau Institute. This institute informs the government on all the possible consequences of new technologies for society. They also engage citizens and stakeholders on their views on technology and science. Her interests in food, technology and social equity come together at the institute in questions like “who exactly benefits from this development and who doesn’t?” and “where do we want technological innovation to go?”. We hope, actually, we are sure, that she will bring lots of interesting stuff to the table and are happy to open up the conversation.

We’re curious about your truths too, so bring ’em.

EAT ART collective works on the public perception of food and the system around it. We welcome all questions and translate them into interactive experiences, dinners, installations, workshops and lectures.
