Break Out: The Emerging South — Food and Culture in and around Charlois – Nil Duru & Philippe Lavoipierre

June 11, 18:00 - 18:45

Let’s talk and share what we know about South Rotterdam.

So, what’s here in Charlois? A number of places to eat. We have Turkish eateries, Polish and Balkan groceries, a Portuguese shop. In addition there is a fine theater, a historical windmill where we buy all of our flour fresh-milled, and one the world’s coolest little café bars. We would also welcome any of your suggestions.

As culture and food enthusiasts, we think the South has a good deal to offer, and certainly has potential for positive growth and development. There is increasing development in the South; for example, in the area around Zuidplein. To these newcomers, things seem to be going in a positive direction.

We will focus on the Charlois section, as this is the area we know best, although we may drop a couple of hints on locations in adjacent areas.
We are looking forward to renewal after quarantine and are even planning on hosting tiny house concerts and home dining events ourselves, an idea we would like to encourage in the community. We hope to hear more on that over the course of the June events at Venture Café. Hopefully we will soon all have renewed access to our favorite spots.

About the speakers
Nil is a cook, global cuisine enthusiast and founder of Global Seasons – her area is discovering food through cultures, supporting local and seasonal cooking. Philippe is a musician. They live in Rotterdam Charlois.
