Break Out: Love Control – Remedica & Pfizer (in Dutch!)

80% of young men and woman do not dare to talk to their GP about sexuality, contraception, pregnancy and STDs. Shame and trust play a major role in this situation. Therefore it is extremely important for them to learn about the choices that are available and to be in control of themselves. That is why ‘Love Control’ has been developed for all mbo-schools in the Netherlands. Love Control is a special educational program to discuss the sexual health of young people between the age of 16-24 to prevent unwanted pregnancies and STDs.

The teaching material and website have been developed in coordination with Rutgers and SOA Aids Nederland. On average there are 250 Love Control lessons per month and more than 4000 students are reached each month. Five large mbo-schools  indicated that they wish to see that Love Control is a permanent part of the curriculum.

To be able to offer Love-Control on a larger scale at mbo-schools in the Netherlands – and thus make a substantial contribution to the Prevention plan for the prevention of unintended (teenage) pregnancies that the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport has activated last month – Remedica and Pfizer are seeking partners in the field  of sexuality and contraception to make this possible.

The question addressed during this session: in what way can we ensure that Love Control lessons are taught at all mbo-schools in the Netherlands and how can we make that financially feasible?
