November 22, 2018, 17:30 - 19:30

Do you want to be part of the innovations of the future that will reduce the societal burden of chronic pain? Connect to the chain and make it happen!

Theme of the break-out session is the influence of chronic pain on our society. Goal of the break out session Chain the Pain is to create awareness on chronic pain and to connect people, in order to collaborate and create solutions in the near future. This break out session will be organized in two parts, with a 10-minute break in between.

During the first part (17:30-18:30) you will be challenged by position statements on the societal impact of chronic pain and asked about what you think is most important to change in the near future.

After a short break (18:30-18:40), the second part of the session (18:40-19:30) will focus on innovative solutions, and will be kick-started by two interviews sharing unique collaborative initiatives that contribute to minimizing the societal burden of chronic pain.

   .

In the first interview, Marianna Tryfonidou, professor Regenerative Orthopedics at Utrecht University tells about her research project. As founder of a large international consortium she recently received a 15 million euro grant from the Horizon 2020-program of the European Commission for the development of an advanced therapy to treat chronic back pain, a condition from which hundreds of million people suffer worldwide.

Return to work is an important aspect of chronic disease rehabilitation. In the second interview, Martin Smeulers, manager Rijndam Arbeidsrevalidatie, tells how their unique, multidisciplinary approach, collaborating with health care suppliers and employers results in people with chronic pain performing well at work.

The session will be ended by discussing participants’ future challenges, innovative ideas and needs for collaborations. Do you want to be part of the innovations of the future that will reduce the societal burden of chronic pain? Connect to the chain and make it happen!
